It's not another offshored- to- China excuse made out of plastic. They're real engraved metal. It's trivially easy to set ISO, advance mode, aperture, shutter speed, exposure compensation and even the metering mode directly, because each of these functions has its own dedicated, single- purpose dial — just like a real camera! The XT- 1 works fast and easy, as a camera should. You don't need a manual to figure it out; it's all right in front of you. Great cameras haven't been this light since the 1. No wonder they are in such high demand that they usually are not in stock! You have to order yours, and be patient. Never buy at retail; Fuji's boxes are unsealed so it's just not worth taking the chance. The X- T1 completely eclipses the old LEICA M2. This Fuji is faster and cleaner, is at least as well made optically and mechanically, it has more and better external controls and ergonomics, has far superior autofocus, and has a decades- better viewfinder — oh, and the LEICA's EVF electronic finder is offshored to China and made out of plastic! This Fuji X- system is the first serious system designed from the ground- up as digital camera system with no ties whatsoever to film. For instance, the lenses are designed knowing they'll be working with a digital system, and the system automatically works in concert with these lenses to correct lateral color, distortion, light falloff and even diffraction all automatically. There's no way to shoot these lenses off the camera to see how they work without correction; they are intended to work with the camera as a complete system. The XT- 1 has a huge, live electronic finder with eye control, about 1. LEICA's plastic EVF on the M typ 2. Fuji is actually advancing the state- of- the- art in photography, while other brands are just sitting around selling the same old thing. This Fuji actually has dials and a control system that work together, not like the could- have- been- great dials on the Nikon Df. The X- T1 focuses super fast, and it's super sharp, and unlike a real SLR or rangefinder camera, the XT- 1's closed- loop mirrorless autofocus system ensures that focus is dead- nuts perfect every time, especially at f/1. When you use the Fuji, you'll see how they've actually been thinking about how to rethink what a camera should be and add new features that help us get the shot, as opposed to throwing more junk features in our way to help sell more cameras. It has no anti- alias filter, so the results are much sharper than from most other cameras. The X- T1 just shoots, and the results are always super- sharp and well exposed — better than I get from DSLRs, whose exposure and focus aren't always dead- on as they are with the X- T1. Nikon and Canon don't any more. The X- T1 has a real exposure compensation dial. LEICA and Nikon don't any more. The X- T1 has a real ISO dial. LEICA, Canon and Nikon don't any more. The X- T1 has real exposure mode switches. Better yet, the Fuji, just like Contax, changes its exposure mode automatically as you turn the shutter and/or aperture rings to A when you want them to set themselves. Set both to A for Professional (formerly Program) exposure mode. Done. The X- T1 makes movies too. The X- T1 has a built- in manual focus assist loupe. Yes, there are plenty of plastic consumer Micro 4/3 cameras with LCD finders, but they are not professional grade. I need a camera with real dials like the X- T1 and fast metal lenses, not a plastic toy. Good top. Fiat Lux, Pele's, 0. May 2. 01. 4. The included tiny hot shoe EF- X8 flash is fantastic. I get better- balanced indoor ambient flash exposures automatically, on the first shot, than with any DSLR or LEICA. Fantastic flash exposure with included flash. Fantastic ergonomics optimized for people who know how to shoot; a perfect shooter's camera with all the right knobs in the right places. Unlike most of the disposable plastic (but expensive) cameras I review today, the X- T1 is all- metal with engraved markings, and so are its lenses. It's better built than anything today from Nikon or Canon, and the same or better as LEICA — for a fraction of the price. Claims to be weather sealed. Adds Wi- Fi. Extraordinarily good auto white balance in crummy light, much better than DSLRs. Great highlight rendition; the Auto Dynamic Range feature really helps hold the highlights regardless of the conditions. While nothing tops shooting real Velvia or a top- tier brand (Nikon or Canon) DSLR for shooting places and things, this X- T1 is Fuji's best so far. Missing top. There's no RGB histogram, but the X- T1's fantastic highlight rendition means you don't need to watch for clipping individually in each channel as you do on other cameras. I don't use this on other cameras, but the X- T1's blinking highlight option works just fine instead. There's usually no Program shift available most ways that you can set the camera, but that's not a problem, since all you need to do is flick the aperture or shutter dial instead. No threaded cable release socket like the X1. S, X- E1 or x. Pro- 1. No zero detent on the compensation dial. No GPS. No second card slot. There's just a battery icon, no percentage displayed. Next Model. I predict the next model will fix or add: Second SD card slot (there's practically a cutout for the second card right now). Battery percentage indication. Standard threaded cable release socket. Self- timer mode added to drive mode dial. Lens Compatibility top. Fujifilm X- T1. bigger. The X- T1 uses Fuji's X- mount XF and XC lenses. The X- T1 can use LEICA and other brands of lenses cave- manually with a Lens Adapter, but don't use anything other than the Fuji XF lenses if you want to get the performance of which this system is capable. Fuji's lenses are optimized to work with the camera's DSP to optimize them. Each corner's color shift set can be set individually for use with lenses like the 1. Voigtl. If you really want to shoot, use the right lenses. Fuji's lenses are extraordinary; LEICA's are no better optically, and tend to be worse because the camera's DSP can't optimize them further. X- Pro. 1 of the X- series cameras that was announced in January of 2. It is hard to believe that it has been five years since Fuji first announced its mirrorless X system with the launch of the Fuji X- Pro. It was a pretty rough ride for Fuji, since the system looked very appealing and yet the initial feedback and reviews indicated that the camera was full of bugs and autofocus issues. But despite the negative reactions, Fuji did not give up, since it wanted to make the X system successful at all costs. Within a year, the X- Pro. AF system became much more polished and reliable. Fuji decided not to leave its original customers behind, letting them get the latest and greatest through “Kaizen” firmware upgrades. And although Fuji released a bunch of new X- series cameras, the X- Pro. That level of commitment did not go unnoticed by the photography community, creating a large and loyal Fuji fan base. After a long wait, Fuji finally revealed the much anticipated X- Pro. Last Christmas, an amazing gift from Fuji. Film Italia gave me the opportunity to experience the Fuji X- Pro. Since Nasim also had some thoughts to share with PL readers after using the camera for a few months, we decided to combine our efforts into a single review. Fuji. Film X- Pro. Venice, Italy . The reason I continue to be in love with this brand is related to how much I appreciate working with their products (both analog and digital!)? Can you use an APS- C mirrorless camera as a professional tool? Yes, definitely! Is it worth switching your whole DSLR system to a mirrorless one? It all depends on what you are planning to use the camera for. For shooting everything but fast action, there is little reason to go with a DSLR nowadays, especially given the fact that major DSLR manufacturers like Canon and Nikon have long given up on making small and lightweight lenses for their APS- C cameras. However, if you shoot fast action such as sports and wildlife, DSLRs still reign supreme due to faster and more reliable autofocus, less blackouts / lags, and a wide selection of super telephoto lenses – things mirrorless systems still have to catch up with. But we are getting off- topic and the mirrorless vs DSLR debate is something we can leave for another day – let’s jump right back to the X- Pro. Istanbul at Sunset . For the duration of my test I kept the same lens mounted, the Fujifilm XF 5. In contrast, Nasim used a number of different lenses such as the XF 2. XF 3. 5mm f/2, XF 5. APD and XF 1. 0- 2. OIS. Portrait of Jasmine . It’s the setting that I almost always use on the Fuji X1. S. I love this film simulation, because what I see in the JPEG is always much less than what I can get from the RAW file and having a pessimistic forecast helps me establish a sort of safety net for what I will have to work with, once I’m home and have downloaded the files. I also like the look and feel it gives. I was really tempted by the Classic Chrome simulation, but I knew I could get it later in Lightroom while tinkering with the RAW file. Hot Spring at Yellowstone NP . In the last couple of years, I rarely use it (my RAW development software of choice is Capture One). But in the configuration of the camera, I made the unfortunate mistake of choosing the lossless compression for RAW files. As a consequence, all the shots I took for this test had to pass through Lightroom. Hierapolis Ruins. The Fuji X1. 00. F Review. The Fourth Generation of Fuji is “The One” – Steve Huff Photo. The Fuji X1. 00. F Review. The Fourth Generation of the Fuji is “The One”By Steve Huff. Order the Fuji X1. F at B& H Photo or Amazon. The X1. 00 series from Fuji has long been dear to my heart. In fact, it is one of the cameras that has taken the ride with me on this journey of life for the last six years or so (see this post from a week or so ago), on and off. It has given me memories of these last six years of my life with some great personal moments (most never published) that quite frankly, no other camera has. As I sat and browsed my thousands of photos taken with the X1. X1. 00. S, X1. 00. T and now even the X1. F I kept saying to myself “wow, I have more personal photos that I love taken with this camera than even my Leica M cameras”. Well, maybe not really but it sure seemed that way as my head got lost in a time machine of memories. Seeing my son younger, and remembering the times we used to have taking all day adventures or even seeing memories from other areas of my life that were important to me. Those moments where I seemed to have a X1. X1. 00. F OOC JPEG using the “CHROME” color preset – Click it for larger–and this one, 1. RAWI even did this comparison back in the day, an X1. Leica M9 and the X1. Then I sat there and wondered why that was, why I had an X1. Leica or Sony or whatever I was using at the time, but then it hit me. The X1. 00 was easy to carry, always easy to bring with me, always easy to USE. Sure, the 1st one, that original, had some slow focus issues, and some response issues. It was the 1st, and the 1st of anything is usually never perfect. Hell, even the new F is not perfect but it’s still an X1. I am pleased as punch because the X1. But I took that X1. Trans sensor) was beautiful. X1. 00. F with the perfect strap I have found for it. The Tie her Up “Snake” I use the 1. I prefer the strap across my chest. Now, of course there are other cameras that do this very well. A Leica M is fantastic for this, and has usually always been my “Go To” for these things. Small, slim, tiny lenses and a joy that comes from manual focus and nailing those shots. For me, lately, my eyesight has been degrading (comes with the territory when you hit mid to late 4. I am 4. 7 now) so manual focusing a RF has been tricky lately. When I fell in love HARD for the new M1. I realized it was harder for me to shoot as I never wear my glasses when shooting (though I should). I would now need diopters for using an M reliably. Then I remembered that I never missed a shot with the Leica SL due to its huge picture window EVF. Then I realized. I bought it from Amazon when up for order and had one on the day of release. Sometimes I buy a camera for review, then sell it if I do not feel I want it. To be clear, I have a stable of cameras here and being a camera and lens reviewer allows that. I always keep my faves on hand for comparison sake. Today, in March 2. I keep the Sony A7r. II, An Olympus EM1 MKII and PEN- F, A Leica SL, A Sony A6. These are the bodies that I enjoy and get the most use from right now, and I doubted if there was a place for the X1. F but then I realized there most certainly was. I do not own a Fuji right now, and I need one. The Fuji colors, the newer Acros B& W mode that delivers (IMO) beautiful B& W images out of the camera and the small size mixed with the retro design that always made this series beautiful. I have nothing like that in my stable right now besides the PEN- F and while these two have some similarities, they are quite different. So yea, I will add the X1. I apologize : )I went with the classic Silver and Black model because to me it just give the X1. F that vintage look and style, and I already have the normal black SLR style body filled with my other cameras ; )IF YOU MISSED IT, MY FIRST LOOK VIDEO OF THE X1. FFIRST THINGS FIRSTSo first things first. What does this X1. F offer than the X1. X1. 00s and X1. 00. T did not? Well, as with all of these Fuji releases most improvements have been incremental and each new model brought forth improvements in auto focus speed and capabilities, response time and in the case of the X1. F, the new things or improvements over the last model are listed below: 2. MP APS- C X- Trans CMOS III Sensor and X- Processor Pro“Utilizing Fujifilm’s unique, randomized pixel array, the 2. MP APS- C X- Trans CMOS III sensor affords a high degree of image quality and sharpness due to the omission of an optical low- pass filter. Versus conventional pixel patterns, the X- Trans design more closely mimics the organic nature of film in order to produce nuanced colors and smooth tonal transitions, while also reducing moir. Additionally, the sensor is paired with the X- Processor Pro image processor to yield smooth, low- noise results, an extended sensitivity range of ISO 1. Full HD 1. 08. 0p video recording at up to 6. AF speed of 0. 0. My Brussels Griffon, Olive. X1. 00. F, Acros Mode in full sun in my yard. Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder“Both optical and electronic viewing means are incorporated into the unique Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder, which provides both the simplicity of an OVF with the technological advancements of an EVF. Switching between both viewing methods is done with the dedicated OVF/EVF switching lever, enabling quick transitioning between both modes. The OVF has its benefits in providing a clear, unadulterated view of the scene you’re photographing and reduces the shutter lag time to a minimum. For fine- tuning of focus, exposure, white balance, and other camera settings, the EVF gives you the ability to monitor all of the applied settings prior to making the exposure. An enhanced optical viewfinder now incorporates an electronic rangefinder mode, harking to traditional mechanical rangefinder cameras of which this camera gains its appearance from, and permits refined and comparative manual focusing methods. The magnification of the electronic rangefinder can be adjusted to 2. In contrast, the high- resolution 2. EVF provides you with 1. By using the phase- detection pixels located on the imaging sensor, Digital Split Image is able to assist in acquiring precise focus by showing comparative in and out of focus areas of the image. Also contributing to manual focus accuracy, focus peaking has been integrated and enables a more objective system of focusing by way of highlighting sharp edges and lines of contrast in a clear manner. When working with the EVF, you can also utilize Shooting Effect Reflection settings in order to preview and utilize selected camera effects, such as Film Simulation modes. When this setting is turned off, the image will revert to a natural view, void of any exposure or camera settings applied, to better suit working in darker conditions and to greatly reduce any display lag.”May have been Velvia mode, JPEG – X1. Auto Macro focusing mode lets you focus on subjects as close a 3. I was curious as to what Fuji could do to improve upon it from the T or even S. To be honest, I was not a huge fan of the T as I felt it was very similar to the S. Small changes made that really did not affect me at all with it. But this new F, for me is the one that finally surpasses the original for IQ and everything else. To me, this new F is “The One” when it comes to the X1. The body to me feels a tad more beefier in weight though, which is a good thing as I always find Fuji camera too feel hollow and almost too light when compared to other cameras makers. Sony, Olympus or Leica. But this X1. 00. F feels great, just as it should. Not too light and not too heavy. It’s fantastic in feel and form. I basically just took mine out with me wherever I went even though these last two weeks have been filled with personal things I had to get done for life in general, as well as some sickness issues and even losing my passport before a huge out of the country trip and stressing to find it (so far without luck). So while I have been stressed and hectic with life, I managed to evaluate the X1. F anyway ; ) Truth be told I try not to let myself get stressed out too much, ever, and shooting the X1. F seemed to help me forget some of the stress I have been getting thrown at me this week. Shooting it has been a smooth experience. No lag, no missed Auto Focus shots, no problems with over exposure as I used to get with the older models. Now I seem to be getting a tad but of underexposure which is strange for a Fuji but I usually shoot with a little exposure comp set in to avoid highlights blowing out. Something I became used to with the original Leica monochrome. With the X1. 00. F I do not need to do that as it seems to expose the scene perfectly for my worries and the dynamic range is there, as it is with all cameras made today (the good ones). The EVF is still nice, and how I remember it.
